This is usually that time of year. Weeks have gone by since you made all those big goals and now reality has set in and you're feeling like a big blob. Sounds familiar? Well, you are not alone. Almost 80% of Americans have already dropped their New Year's Resolutions. Yep, you read that right... 80%. But there's hope!
Here are 3 ideas that will help you jump start those New Year's Resolutions:
1. Clarity over Quantity
Start thinking in realistic terms. Instead of making a plan to lose 20 lbs, it's better to think specifics, like: "I'm going to eat less carbs and sugars for the next two weeks". Then execute. This way you'll have set plan, a target date, and most importantly, you'll be adding clarity to your goal.
2. Don't Strive for Perfection
By nature we tend to beat ourselves up because we missed a day. But then that one day becomes two, then three, and next thing we know it's been three weeks since we've been at the gym. The key is to create a commitment. A workout partner or a coach are the best solutions. You're more likely to not miss if you have someone to keep you accountable.
3. Start Small
You don't have to read 30 books, or never touch a cigarette again, or meditate 6 times a week. All you have to do is read one page a day, meditate for 5 minutes, go for a walk around the block, write down one paragraph... People who write books don't start by spending hours a day in front of the laptop. They start with one sentence. One less cigarette. One healthy meal. One step... That's all it takes.
Remember: Everyone fails, at one point or another. It's part of life. The secret is to learn how to pick ourselves back up to keep moving towards our goal. I know it sounds super cliché, but it is absolutely true.
So, pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, and get back to work.
